CSIR-CRRI’s Technological Collaboration with BRO Project Dantak in Bhutan

The Border Roads Organization (BRO), under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, is responsible for constructing and maintaining strategic roads in Bhutan through Project Dantak. Due to the extremely cold and subzero temperatures prevailing in high-altitude regions, Project Dantak faces major challenges in the construction and maintenance of bituminous roads. To address these challenges, CSIR–CRRI organized a field demonstration and technical workshop on REJUPAVE, Terasurfacing, and Steel Slag Road Technology for Project Dantak and the Royal Government of Bhutan in ThimphuIn collaboration with Verma Industries, CSIR–CRRI and BRO Project Dantak successfully demonstrated the REJUPAVE technology for constructing high-altitude bituminous roads under subzero temperature conditions in the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan. This groundbreaking demonstration was carried out at Chalela Pass, the highest motorable point on the Paro–Haa road, and was witnessed by senior officials from the Department of Surface Transport, Government of Bhutan, and the BRO team.
