TERASURFACING

TERA SURFACING (Thin Enhanced Road Asphalt Surfacing)

Tera Surfacing is a high-performance thin bituminous surfacing layer designed for preventive maintenance and restoration of flexible pavements. It improves surface characteristics such as skid resistance, waterproofing, and riding quality, and extends the pavement’s service life.

Method of Application

Surface Preparation

  • Clean the road surface using mechanical broom or blower to remove dust, debris, and loose materials.

  • Repair any existing potholes, cracks, or structural defects before application.

 Tack Coat Application

  • Apply a bituminous tack coat (emulsion or binder) uniformly over the prepared surface using a pressure distributor.

  • Allow the tack coat to cure and become tacky before laying the mix.

Tera Surfacing Mix Laying

  • Lay the Tera Mix (a premixed bituminous layer with selected aggregates and polymer-modified binder) using a paver for uniform thickness (typically 20–25 mm).

  • Ensure even spreading and alignment with the road profile.

Compaction

  • Compact the freshly laid mix using a vibratory roller (6–8 Tonne) to achieve the desired density.

  • Rolling should be done in multiple passes until no further movement is observed.
