Shri Satish Pandey is a Senior Principal Scientist and Head of the Flexible Pavements Division at CSIR–Central Road Research Institute (CSIR–CRRI), New Delhi, with nearly two decades of experience in transportation and highway engineering. His work focuses on sustainable pavement materials, circular-economy solutions, innovative road technologies and the translation of scientific research into field-scale infrastructure.
He has been a key scientific leader behind the development and field implementation of Steel Slag Road Technology, enabling processed steel slag to be utilized as an alternative to natural aggregates in road construction.
Shri Pandey has led and contributed to the development, validation and implementation of several sustainable road technologies, including Steel Slag Road Technology, ECOFIX for rapid pothole repair, REJUPAVE for road recycling and low-temperature asphalt applications.
His work emphasizes waste-to-wealth, resource efficiency, low-carbon construction and resilient transportation infrastructure through innovative pavement materials and sustainable engineering practices.
As Project Leader of major steel-slag road research programmes, he has worked closely with government agencies, steel industries and road authorities to take technologies from laboratory research to large-scale field demonstrations.
His contributions have also supported the preparation of technical guidelines for the processing and utilization of steel slag as processed aggregates in road construction.
His research and technology-development contributions have received national recognition, including the CSIR Technology Award and recognition for pioneering steel slag road applications. He has actively contributed to national and professional forums involving CSIR, Ministry of Steel, MoRTH, NHAI, BRO, NITI Aayog, IRC and industry stakeholders.
